'Blade Runner Black Out 2022' Reviews: Darkness Caused Destruction In Los Angeles
With the release of the highly anticipated "Blade Runner 2049" next week, the final short film titled "Blade Runner Black Out 2022" that aims to fill in the gap between the original "Blade Runner" and the upcoming movie has been released.
In the 15-minute animated short film helmed by Japanese anime director Shinichiro Watanabe, the city of Los Angeles was enveloped in total darkness caused by a Nexus 8 replicants named Iggy and Trixie, whose voices were lent by Jovan Jackson and Luci Christian respectively. They are being helped by a human named Ren, portrayed by Bryson Bauguss.
The blackout reportedly caused a major EMP blast that erased all the files and records of all the registered replicants. It also caused a massive destruction all over the world.
According to GameSpot, the "Black Out 2022" can be described as a visually-attractive follow-up to the original film "Blade Runner" that starred Harrison Ford in 1982. It is also an amazing update before the worldwide premiere of "Blade Runner 2049," where Ford will reprise his role as former police officer Rick Deckard together with Ryan Gosling as a police officer named K, Robin Wright as Lieutenant Joshi, Mackenzie Davis as Mariette, Dave Bautista as Sapper Morton, and Jared Leto as Neander Wallace.
The report also claimed that Watanabe's signature modern animation storytelling techniques, which was also evident in his other acclaimed films like "Cowboy Bebop," was able to replicate the feelings that were showcased in the original film. He also managed to provide the audience a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming movie.
Aside from Watanabe's "Black Out 2022," two other short films were also released as prequels for "Blade Runner 2049." It includes the "Blade Runner 2036: Nexus Dawn" featuring Leto's Neander Wallace, as well as the Baustista-starring "Blade Runner 2048: Nowhere to Run."
The "Blade Runner 2049" is slated to come out in theaters on Friday, Oct. 6.
