Blake Lively 'The Rhythm Section' Spy Film Release Date Announced from James Bond Producers

Blake Lively's spy film "The Rhythm Section" lands a theater release date. Paramount schedules the movie from the same producers of the James Bond franchise for a Feb. 22, 2019 premiere.

"The Rhythm Section" is an espionage thriller based on a book series from Mark Burnell, who also adapted the screenplay. The story is about a woman named Stephanie Patrick (Lively) who learns that her family's death in a plane crash was not an accident. Patrick then trains to become an assassin to get back at those responsible for killing her loved ones."

"I play a heroin-addicted prostitute," Lively explained her latest role. "You always see that thing in movies where if a woman is a prostitute or a sex worker, you always think, I don't want the guys to be grossed out by her," Lively shared, adding, "We have to still make her kind of sexy...tragically sexy."

"The Rhythm Section" is the first of four spy novels, which opens the possibility for Lively to star in an action franchise if the movie goes well. "The Handmaid's Tale" executive producer and director Reed Morano has been tapped to helm the film. The team behind James Bond, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, are producers.

In October, Jude Law was in discussion with the producers to join Lively. Other casting details have not been announced but filming for "The Rhythm Section" is expected to begin this fall.

Meanwhile, Lively's latest movie, "All I See is You," is currently running in theaters. She plays a formerly blind woman who learns new but disturbing details about her relationship with her husband after she regains her sight. Lively also sings in the film. Jason Clarke ("Zero Dark Thirty") stars as her husband.

Lively recently finished work on another upcoming flick, "A Simple Favor," where she plays the best friend of a mommy blogger. Anna Kendrick ("Pitch Perfect") plays the blogger.
