'Blend S' Air Date, Spoilers: Maid Cafe Anime Opens Doors in October
Maika Sakuranomiya's stint as a sadistic girl at cafe Stile is about to begin on the Japanese anime series, "Blend S." Will she be able to portray a character that doesn't seem to be like her at all, or will she instead realize a previously untapped side to herself?
High school student Maika always had to contend with the misunderstandings caused by her scary smile. But if this smile does say something about the series protagonist, is that she has a tendency to feel and thus appear awkward in social situations.
However, things will change for her when she gets scouted by an Italian Man, Dino, who offers her a job as the sadistic waitress in the maid café named Stile.
At Stile, the waitresses are each given a unique trait like tsundere and younger sister. According to Kotaku, a tsundere is someone who is aloof and seems to have an arrogant high and mighty disposition. But the truth is that a tsundere may be stuck-up on the outside, but they are really kind and loving on the inside.
The series is based on a four-panel comic strip manga written and illustrated by Miyuki Nakayama. It was first published in 2013 on Houbunshia's Manga Time Kirara Carat magazine. It is currently still running and has already been published in three collected editions.
On the other hand, the upcoming anime adaptation by A-1 picture will be directed by Ryouji Masuyama, with Gou Zappa supervising the series' scripts while Yousuke Okuda takes care of the character designs. Azumi Waki, Akari Kitou, and Anzu Haruno will be performing the opening theme titled "Bon Appétit S" under the name Blend A. The three of them will also be doing the voices of the three main characters, Maika, Kaho, and Mafuyu, respectively.
A special screening event will reportedly be held on Friday, Sept. 29, at the United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba. Waki, Kitou, and Haruno will also be appearing as guests.
"Blend S" premieres on Saturday, Oct. 7, late night at 12:30 a.m. JST on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11. It will also air on AT-X starting on Monday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. JST. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site.
