BLU Vivo Air LTE News: Slimmest US Smartphone Unveiled (VIDEO)

BLU recently revealed its Vivo Air LTE, the slimmest handset in the US, at the CTIA 2015 early this week.

Miami-based electronics manufacturer BLU recently launched its VIVO Air LTE, touted to be the thinnest smartphone in the United States at 5.1mm, introducing the new handset together with its other handheld device, the Pure XL phablet, at the 2015 CTIA Super Mobility week-long technology expo in Las Vegas, September 8.

The ultra slim device is BLU's upgraded variant of its Vivo Air it released in January. Its 4.8-inch screen features a 306ppi 1280 x 720 resolution HD Super AMOLED display topped by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Underneath its display, the VIVO Air LTE packs a 64-bit quad-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 with an Adreno 306 GPU, supported by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

With an 8MP main rear camera equipped with a Sony Sensor, Largen lens, and a LED flash, it also has a 5MP front shooter, and HD 1080p video recording. The device, featuring Dirac HD audio, is supported by 3G, HSPA, and 4G LTE, with Wi-Fi and HotSpot capabilities, upgrading from its predecessor with LTE support.

Housed in a 68.1mm x 5.1mm x 141.9mm thin casing made of aircraft aluminum, it weighs 98g, runs on a 2.050mAh battery, and is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

While the Vivo Air LTE appears nearly identical to the Vivo Air, it is thinner and lighter, with its power button having shifted to the right side of the phone. The headphone jack is now located on the bottom left of the device, and its microUSB port has migrated to the right as opposed to center location on the Vivo Air.

The new phone's LED flash is now located beside the rear camera instead of under it, and the BLU logo has moved up to the middle of the device's back cover. The Vivo Air's capacitive keys have also been replaced to on-screen navigation in the Vivo Air LTE, as well.

The Vivo Air LTE is expected to be available on retailer's shelves by September 22 in black and white variants. It will be a contract-based smartphone under AT&T and T-Mobile, and carries a $199 price tag.
