Bobbi Kristina Upset After Angela Bassett Says She's No Actress
Bobbi Kristina Brown is speaking out against Angela Bassett, who recently revealed why she did not cast the daughter of the late Whitney Houston in her upcoming biopic.
Houston's biopic is coming to the small screen next year directed by actress Angela Bassett. Houston, the 48-year-old recording artist and actress, died in 2012. Now Lifetime is ready to release a film based on her life.
After Bobbi Kristina, 21, revealed that she wanted to be cast as her mother in the film, Bassett told Entertainment Weekly why she decided to cast model and actress Yaya DaCosta instead.
"I did not think about casting her. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she's not an actress," Bassett said of Bobbi Kristina. "I know she's acted here and there. I know she's been on their family's reality show, but she's not an actress and acting is a craft."
The actress and director went on to reveal why a strict shooting schedule led to her casting an experienced actress.
"It's an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life. And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story," Bassett explained. "It's more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story—there's a technical aspect."
Bobbi Kristina caught wind of Bassett's comments and spoke out against her on Twitter. After accusing Bassett of being a male, Bobbi Kristina spoke about proving the veteran actress wrong.
"When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes1st, I'll be sure 2shout URname out (expletive)," Bobbi Kristina tweeted. "hahUrTestResults= MALE."
Bassett, Houston's co-star in the 1995 film "Waiting To Exhale" previously spoke about her plans to direct the film which is tentatively titled "Whitney Houston."
"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said in a statement released by Lifetime. "Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."
