'Bohemian Rhapsody' Biopic Release Date, News: Mike Myers In Talks For a Cameo
Mike Myers might be coming out of semi-retirement. The actor, who hasn't been seen on the big screen since 2009's "Inglourious Basterds" is in talks to do a cameo in "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Myers, famous for his roles as Austin Powers and Wayne Campbell in "Wayne's World," is reportedly being asked to join the movie about Queen's famous lead singer Freddie Mercury. Myer's role on "Bohemian Rhapsody," however, remains unclear.
When Myers did "Wayne's World" in 1992, he paid Queen and Freddie Mercury a tribute in a scene where Wayne and his sidekick Garth (Dana Carvey) did a lip synch of "Bohemian Rhapsody" inside a car. That scene became one of the most popular moments that defined the movie.
Aside from this cameo, Myers will also join Margot Robbie in "Terminal" and might star in the biopic "Del." The actor hasn't been entirely absent from moviemaking, however, since he's the voice behind the animated character Shrek, which spawned multiple installments.
Myers will join Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot") who will play the Queen frontman. Earlier, Entertainment Weekly published a photo of Malek made up as Mercury as production started.
Meanwhile, Malek revealed that he's currently recording some songs for "Bohemian Rhapsody." His voice will be mixed with Mercury's voice.
"We're going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible," Malek said.
"X-Men" director Bryan Singer will helm the biopic from a screenplay that Justin Haythe wrote. Haythe worked on the adaption of the 2008 Leonardo DiCaprio-Kate Winslet flick "Revolutionary Road."
"It won't just be the dark Freddie story, but that being said, that also will be honored," the director said. "It's about collaboration. It's a celebration."
Mercury captured the heart of music-lovers around the world because of his unique singing voice. Rolling Stone ranked him as the 18th among 100 greatest singers of all time along with Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Aretha Franklin.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" has a Dec. 25, 2018 theater release.
