'Bohemian Rhapsody' Movie News, Release Date: Bryan Singer Shares Photo of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury
Director Bryan Singer has shared a new photo of Rami Malek as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Singer took to Instagram to post a photo of a shirtless Malek in full character as Mercury. Malek can be seen striking a pose as he holds the mic to his mouth in what looks to be a shot of a concert.
"Couldn't help myself and had to post this iPhone pic," Singer wrote in the caption.
This is only the second photo of Malek as Mercury that has been made public. The first photo was released in September. Fans noted Malek's resemblance to the Queen frontman, who died in 1991.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" is currently in production. The film will be using both Mercury's and Malek's voices in the music. Malek even previously revealed that he was recording at the famous Abbey Road Studios. Malek's "Mr. Root" co-star, Christian Slater, has already teased how good his singing is.
"We share dressing rooms, and I put a cup up and I hear him singing in there. And it's gonna blow everybody away," Slater said.
Last month, two actors were added to the cast of the upcoming Queen biopic. According to Deadline, Tom Hollander and "Game of Thrones" alum Aidan Gillen had been tapped to play Jim Beach and John Reid, respectively. For those who are unaware, Beach took over as Queen's manager from 1978 after Reid, who occupied the post from 1975 to 1978, left.
Other cast members include Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, and Lucy Boynton. Lee, Hardy, and Mazzello are portraying Queen members Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon, respectively. Boynton, on the other hand, plays Mercury's partner, Mary Austin.
Rounding out the cast are Aaron McCusker, Allen Leech, and Mike Myers. McCusker plays Mercury's lover Jim Hutton, while Leech plays Paul Prenter. Myers' role remains unknown at this point.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" will premiere on Dec. 25, 2018.
