'Bombergirl' News, Gameplay: Konami Announces Anime-Themed 'Bomberman' Spin-Off Arcade Game
Konami announced the upcoming game "Bombergirl" on Friday at the Japan Amusement Expo 2017, revealing that the "Bomberman" spin-off will be available on arcades and is heavily anime-themed.
"Bombergirl" practically carries the same mechanics as the classic "Bomberman" with a four-on-four setup. Bombs need to be strategically placed in order to defeat the opposing team by blowing up their base.
"Bombergirl" will require players to train their characters and make them stronger. Later on, they can unlock their character-specific powers that are helpful in destroying the opponent's base.
There were four characters showcased last week but more are expected to arrive along the game's development. Of the four known characters, Shiro has the ability to plant multiple bombs, while Momoko has defensive skills by creating blocks. Oren has the speed power-up, while Emera can attack from a distance.
According to reports, the upcoming spin-off game is not exactly for all ages if based on some features of its gameplay. Since the game takes on an anime theme, the characters were reportedly drawn with some skin exposed and large breasts.
Based on a game demo video taken during the Japan Amusement Expo, when a team's base explodes, the losing team will be punished by having the bomber character's clothes torn, therefore exposing more skin and a bit of breast cleavage.
Polygon noted that this is not the first time Konami took a classic game and remade it with "horny takes." The report also cited the previously released spin-off of the studio's side-scrolling game "Otomedius" where Konami remade the title with an anime theme that is filled with girl characters as well.
Despite the presentation and game demo last week, Konami has not yet announced a release date for the "Bombergirl."
Meanwhile, on other "Bomberman" news, Konami has also partnered with Nintendo by cooking up the "Super Bomberman R" game for the latter's upcoming portable console, the Nintendo Switch.
