'Boruto' TV Series Latest News: New Trailer Released; Will Feature New Writer, Artist

After airing episodes for more than a decade, the popular anime series "Naruto Shippuden" is set to end when its final episode airs by the end of March. Though this news may sadden some fans who have followed Masashi Kishimoto's manga and its anime series for so long, they will not have to mourn for too long with the upcoming release of a brand-new spin-off series titled "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations."

The first official trailer for the upcoming "Naruto" spin-off series has recently been released. The footage features a whole new cast of ninja protégés which includes the titular character Boruto, the high-spirited son of Naruto.

"Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" will be set after the events of Kishimoto's original shonen manga, around a few years after the Fourth Great Ninja War. At this time, Naruto is not only the appointed Seventh Hokage but is also married to the princess of the Hyuga clan, Hinata. The new series will be focusing on one of Naruto's children, Boruto Uzumaki.

Fans of the original manga, as well as its anime series, will get to see Boruto's journey as he enters the ninja academy while also dealing with the pressure of being the son of a heroic Hokage.

Boruto is part of a ninja team comprising of Sarada — daughter of Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno — and Mitsuki — Orochimaru's son. They will also be joined by other ninja students, some of whom are also children of Naruto's other friends. These include Chocho Akimichi, Shikadai Nara and Inojin Yamanaka.

The new anime series based on Kishimoto's creation will be spearheaded by Ukyo Kodachi and manga artist Mikio Ikemoto. As previously explained by Kishimoto in his interview with Weekly Shonen Jump, the show will bring a fun and lighter tone for the younger generation.

"Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" will be included in Japan's anime lineup for the spring season, and is scheduled to premiere on TV Tokyo on April 5.

Currently, there is no news regarding the anime series' release in other countries yet.
