Boston Red Sox Roster Rumors 2015: Uehara Out for the Season

To say that the season has been a disappointment for the Boston Red Sox is an understatement. They certainly are unable to catch a break.

Currently seated at the bottom of the American League – East standings, the Red Sox are far behind even in the wild-card race, while the rest of the teams in their division are challenging for at the moment.

And apparently, injuries aren't too far behind when it comes to bad news for Boston.

Pitcher Koji Uehara was placed on the disabled list for the rest of this year's campaign after suffering a non-displaced distal radius fracture against the Detroit Tigers.

The game was on a Friday, with the Red Sox winning the game 7-2. Uehara threw a pitch at Ian Kinsler who hit the ball right back at him and struck the 40-year-old's hand. Uehara was still able to recover the ball and throw it to first base for the final out of the game, but afterward was seen dangling his arms in pain.

It was a bad scene for the closer, but the Red Sox are hoping that he will make a complete recovery. But he will be sidelined throughout the rest of the season to recover.

Uehara only has one year left after this season in his contract so the move seems to be in connection to preparations for next year. The Red Sox hope that Uehara will be healthy enough to play his final season with the Red Sox.

Despite playing in his 40s, Uehara has played on a high level despite the team's poor overall performance. He has 25 out of 27 save chances with a 2.23 Earned Run Average and a 0.92 Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched.

It is reported that Jean Machi will replace Uehara as the Red Sox closer.
