In that first meeting, Boston took an early lead as they scored in the first inning and it took a while before New York got going. However, in the sixth, New York grabbed the lead although it was short-lived as Boston also scored twice to regain the one-run lead. Thanks to New York's run in the ninth, the game got extended to 19 incredible innings before Boston clinched the game-winning run to start off the series on the right foot.
In the next game, the Red Sox used the momentum they had to go away with a 8-4 victory.
Both teams were tied 1-1 heading into the fourth when Boston took a 2-1 lead. However, it was in the seventh where they started to pull away as a blank inning from the Yankees was paired with three scoring runs for Boston to take a 5-1 lead. Both teams scored three runs each in the eighth but that did little to change the outcome as Boston won again.
In the last meeting of that series, New York needed a big win and got it thanks to a big first inning where they opened up a 7-0 lead. Boston couldn't recover from the early deficit and they would go on to surrender a big 14-4 loss at the Bronx.
Now the two teams are set to meet again in a series which will surely draw much attention.
