Boston University Graduate Student Killed, 3rd This Month

A Boston University student has been shot and killed in Allston, according to a BU spokesperson. The killing occurs in the same month that two other graduate students have been killed and four other college students robbed at gun point.

The shooting occurred at 139 Allston St. in Allston, Mass. at around 2:30 a.m. this morning. A spokeswoman with the Boston Police Department reported that a male victim was found in the street suffering from apparent trauma wounds to the head and leg.

Although the shooting occurred off campus, few details concerning the case have been released.

The report comes only a day after a third shooting occurred at the University of Southern California. Last week two Chinese graduate students were shot and killed near the university. A campus officer shot the man after believing him linked to a robbery.

The recent incidents have raised increasing concern surrounding campus safety, both on and off campus.

Lt. Andy Neiman of the Los Angeles Police Department said that the four students were robbed, three male and one female, and asked to hand over valuables. After stuffing the goods, the robber took off but was pursued by two of the male students until coming across the campus officer.

"The officer took up the chase for a couple of blocks, then shot the gunman in the leg after he appeared to be reaching for a weapon," Neiman said, according to the L.A. Times.

An alert was released concerning the Boston graduate student on the university website.

"A Boston University graduate student was killed in an apparent shooting shortly after midnight in Allston. Boston Police Homicide unit is investigating the case along with the Boston University Police. There are no suspects and there have been no arrests. Additional information will be provided through BU Today as it becomes available," the site reported.

An investigation has been launched.
