'Bourne' Movie Casting News: Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles Join Matt Damon
A little over a year away until the release of the next installment to the "Bourne Identity" franchise in July 2016 and the yet untitled movie has cast some of its female leads. The first to confirm that she will part of the cast is Julia Stiles, who will be reprising her role as Nicky Parsons.
Another report in Deadline confirmed earlier rumors that "Ex Machina" star Alicia Vikander will be joining the cast as well, as the female lead opposite Matt Damon's "Jason Bourne" character.
Stiles will be the only other actor who has been featured in all three "Bourne" films together with Matt Damon. Her character in the movie was instrumental in helping out Bourne, who was experiencing amnesia, so that he could figure out what was going on and why people were after him. It was also hinted in "The Bourne Ultimatum" that Parsons and Bourne may have known each other before Bourne's amnesia. This may be something that the upcoming movie will explore.
Vikander on the other hand follows the footsteps of other leading ladies of Bourne, namely Franka Potente and Rachel Weiss. Vikander is fresh from her critically-acclaimed role in "Ex Machina." Her casting in the upcoming "Bourne" movie however means that she will no longer join Michael Fassbender in the live-action adaptation of "Assasin's Creed." The Swedish actress will also be coming out in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."
The upcoming film will be directer by Paul Greengrass, who also directed the second and third "Bourne" films. According to another report in IGN, Damon's decision to come back as Jason Bourne was dependent on the return of Greengrass as director. Greengrass is also writing the screenplay with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall and Jeffrey Weiner are producing, along with Greengrass, Damon and Greg Goodman. Rouse and Henry Morrison are the movie's executive producers.
