Boxing News 2015: Tyson Fury Responds To Critics In Outspoken Manner; Mayweather Says Pacquiao Fight 'Most Important Win' Of Career
Heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury had a very outspoken response to his critics, while Floyd Mayweather Jr. apparently holds his May 2nd fight against long-time rival Manny Pacquiao in high regard.
Since winning the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO world titles late last month from long-time champion Wladimir Klitscko, Fury has gotten a lot of attention from the boxing audience. So much so, that even his pre-fight antics are continuously being brought up, even weeks after the actual contest.
In a report by Boxingscene, a video was mentioned where Fury made comments about women and Olympic track and field athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, saying the latter would "look quite fit when she's got a dress on".
"A woman's best place is in the kitchen and on her back - that's my personal belief," Fury said in a Youtube clip he released. Fury has since been criticized for his comments, which were mainly deemed as sexist and homophobic. The British boxer, however, had this to say in response.
"If I am going to get in trouble for giving women compliments for wearing a dress, then what has the world come to?" Fury said.
The report adds that Fury has also been added to the shortlist of candidates for BBC's "Sports Personality of the Year", but an online petition has actually been made by LGBT campaigner Scott Cuthbertson, asking for him to be taken out of the list. It has so far collated more than 40,000 signatures.
Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is considering his May 2nd bout against Manny Pacquiao as "the most important win" of his career.
In a report by Gregory Stangrit of Boxingscene, "Money May" was in Moscow, Russia last week to hold a boxing seminar. During the said affair, he was seen wearing a t-shirt with a huge number "48" printed on it. According to him, it is to commemorate one of the most significant moments of his career.
"This [shirt] is in honor of my 48th victory, which is the most important of my career," Mayweather explained. "A lot of people said that I avoided this fight. A lot of people said that I couldn't win the fight. But I proved all of that was wrong, and therefore the fight against Manny Pacquiao is the most important for me."
