Boy Who Ate Pop Tart Into Gun Shape Receives Lifetime Membership in NRA

Josh Welch received a complimentary lifetime membership to the National Rifle Association after gaining notoriety for eating a Pop Tart into the shape of a gun. Welch was presented with the award at a Republican fundraiser last night.

Anne Arundel County House Minority Leader Nicholaus R. Kipke presented the 8-year-old with the $550 membership. Welch received a certificate and a replica of the infamous Pop Tart shaped into a gun. However, Welch was seemingly unimpressed with the whole ordeal and gave his mother the certificate so he could play games on a cellphone.

"Everyone keeps asking me why I did it," Josh told The Baltimore Sun. "I don't know why I did it. I wish people would stop asking me about it. It'll probably go on for 45 years or something."

Ironically, Josh is the only Welch family member to have membership in the NRA; he added that he did not know exactly what the NRA was. His attorney is fighting to have the suspension given him by the school removed from his permanent record, though that is still in the court system.

"All I was trying to do was turn it into a mountain," Josh told Fox News in March, "but it didn't look like a mountain really and it turned out to be a gun kinda. It was already a rectangle and I just kept on biting it and biting it and tore off the top and it kinda looked like a gun but it wasn't."

A teacher noticed the Pop Tart's shape and claimed to have heard him say, "Bang, bang." She gave him a two-day suspension, which his family definitely disagreed with.

"I would almost call it insanity," Josh's father B.J. said. "I mean, with all the potential issues that could be dealt with at school, real threats, bullies, whatever the real issue is, it's a pastry … ya know?"

Josh served his suspension, but the family still wants it removed from his record so that it won't affect his educational future.
