'Breaking Bad' Season 6 Hoax Rumors: Announcement Dismissed as Fake
"Breaking Bad," the critically acclaimed American crime drama television created by Vince Gilligan for the AMC network and ended after five seasons. A few days ago, a sixth season was reported by NationReport.net, but it was quickly dismissed as a hoax.
The report owed its supposed authenticity by quoting the cast as well as the creator. Breaking Bad fans took the bait and believed the article to be true, promptly sharing the news on their Facebook and Twitter feeds. The article can no longer be seen on the web, and is assumed to have been deleted.
"Breaking Bad fans around the world are celebrating the stunning, glorious and amazing news announced today: Walter White is not dead, and there will indeed be a sixth season of the wildly-popular, award-winning AMC drama," the bogus report began.
"We've kept it under wraps for months, now the cat's out of the bag. Season 6 is coming, and it's going to be epic and true to the fans that have followed the show so incessantly," it continued, supposedly quoting Vince Gilligan.
The author of the fake announcement then made up quotes from the actors themselves.
"Hey, you never saw bags zip up or anything. Or say … you know," they quoted Bryan Cranston as saying.
To complete the faked authenticity of the article, the authors also included a photo of what appeared to be the script for the first episode of the crime drama series titled "The Phoenix."
Gilligan himself took to dismissing the report himself saying that there definitely and most assurably won't be a sixth season.
