'Breath of the Wild' Hard Mode News: More Challenges, Tougher Enemies, Less Weapons
Out of all "The Legend of Zelda" games in the franchise, including the ones introduced to the Nintendo Entertainment System, "Breath of the Wild" is considered the hardest game. This is the first "The Legend of Zelda" title to get paid downloadable content (DLC), part of which is going to feature a Hard Mode.
"Breath of the Wild's" Hard Mode will include different types of challenges for players. In fact, Nintendo has been experimenting with this mode for the last several releases of "The Legend of Zelda." However, the last three games featured Hero Mode in various forms — not Hard Mode. These games were "The Wind Waker HD," "A Link Between Worlds" and the "Twilight Princess HD."
In "Twilight Princess" and "Wind Walker," players could take twice as much damage without any heart drops. In "A Link Between Worlds," players needed to beat the game if they wanted to unlock the mode. Also, this game featured heart drops and came with four times as much damage.
The damages in the last three games seemed unbearable enough, but the new "Breath of Wild" Hard Mode includes more damages than the three other games have right now. In this mode, several enemies can one-hit kill the player early on in the game, although things become more manageable when the player upgrades his life and armor.
In Hero Mode, the toughest enemies in the game were easy to take down except for the White Lynels. However, things are different in Hard Mode. This mode dramatically alters the difficulty of the game as it blocks the use of food items during combat. Also, the only way to beat the hardest enemies during a fight is by spamming food mid-fight.
The game also gets even harder when on Hard Mode because aside from tougher enemies, it also features more survival elements and less durable weapons. Definitely, this mode is ideal for players who want to push themselves to their limits.
