'Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse' Is Coming to PS4 and Xbox One Summer

Just when people thought that adventure gaming was out of fashion, here comes one old-school adventure game that seems to be changing that notion. The fifth installment of the "Broken Sword" game series, "Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse" is finally coming to next generation consoles, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. According to the game's developer, Revolution Studios, the console versions will be released summer of 2015.

According to a report in IGN, digital versions of the game will be available globally. Buyers in Europe and Australia however get something extra with a copy of the game -- an introductory graphic novel. These new versions for consoles are expected to have "enhancements over the other versions including additional animation and audio, a character gallery section and many console-specific enhancements."

No exact release date has been given. Game pricing is also unknown, but a Eurogamer report suggested using the £18.99 or $29.37 Steam tag price as a guideline for the console versions.

"The Serpent's Curse" sees the return of the series' beloved protagonists, American tourist George Stobbart and French journalist Nicole "Nico" Collard. The pair are investigating a gruesome murder of a gallery owner and the theft of a mysterious painting which may have Satanic connections. The game remains a point-and-click 2D game, but an IGN review says it has "all the polish that often goes missing from modern point-and-click adventures."

"Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse" was originally released in 2013 for Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation Vita, Android and iOS. The first episode was released in December 2013, followed by a second episode in April 2014. The game's development was funded mainly via a Kickstarter campaign as well as donations.

"The Serpent's Curse" is the fifth game in the series. The series is considered to be one of Europe's best-selling adventure games, having sold more than six million units.
