Brooklyn Nets Guard Jeremy Lin Out for the Season With Ruptured Patella Tendon

Another year, another heartbreak for Brooklyn Nets guard Jeremy Lin.

The eight-year pro landed awkwardly after he went up for a contested layup in the fourth quarter of their season opener against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, and he knew right away there was something wrong with his right knee.

Lin immediately grabbed his knee after he crashed to the floor and he repeatedly said, "I'm done," before he burst into tears.

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on Thursday confirmed what they feared. Lin was diagnosed with a ruptured patella tendon of the right knee and he's expected to miss the remainder of the season.

"Jeremy worked tremendously hard during the offseason and in training camp and was excited for the prospects of the team this season. We feel awful that the injury will cost him the season, however our entire organization will be there to support Jeremy in every way possible throughout his recovery. Jeremy remains an important part of this team and will continue to contribute in a leadership role," Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement on Thursday, via NBA.com.

Lin has worked really hard in the offseason after he missed most of last season due to multiple hamstring injuries. But it seems that he will have to sit on the sidelines again this year while he recovers from his knee injury.

"You never want to see somebody go down, especially someone who worked so hard to come back," Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson said after the game.

This is a huge blow for the Nets because he's supposed to be a key piece of the team this season as they continue to take the steps back toward respectability. Now they will have to rely on D'Angelo Russell to do most of the scoring. Allen Crabbe is expected to get the start at the shooting guard position.
