Brooklyn Nets NBA Trade Rumors: Price for Brook Lopez Drops
The Brooklyn Nets know that Brook Lopez has significant value in the trade market. But is he worth two first-round draft picks? The Denver Nuggets might have succeeded in convincing the Cleveland Cavaliers that Timofey Mozgov was worth that much back in 2015, but teams were not willing to give up that much this time even if Lopez was a much better player than Mozgov.
Lopez has been on the trading block for some time now, but there haven't been any takers due to the steep price the Nets were asking in return. Well, the team must have finally realized that they have to lower the asking price if they want to move Lopez before the deadline because ESPN's Marc Stein has reported that the price for the center has dropped to a first-round draft pick and a second-round draft pick.
Looks like the Nets are really serious in trading their starting center. Lopez is averaging 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks so far this season. He remains one of the worst rebounding centers in the league, but his offensive skills more than make up for his weaknesses. He has even developed a three-point shot this season.
The Nets really need to acquire a first-round draft pick because they are in a tight spot thanks to the deal they made with the Boston Celtics back in 2013.
The Celtics have the right to swap picks with the Nets in this year's draft and they will definitely exercise that option to get a top pick. They will also get the Nets' first-round pick next year. Celtics president Danny Ainge looked like a genius after he made the trade to accumulate assets.
Before Stein reported the price drop, sports columnist Peter Vecsey said the Indiana Pacers were willing to ship Al Jefferson, Rodney Stuckey and a first-round pick to the Nets in exchange for Lopez. Can they get a deal done before the deadline?
