'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' season 3 spoilers: Squad gets a new captain

Last season, the hit comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" ended sadly as Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), joined by Gina (Chelsea Peretti), leaves the Nine-Nine for a new job at the Department of Public Relations.

As fans of the show know, Holt was maneuvered into a job change by Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick), despite his best efforts to get out of it. When Wuntch threatens to dismantle the squad, Holt relents and informs the squad of his impending departure.

However, creator Dan Goor did confirm that Holt will be back next season, though not as the captain of the squad anymore. The creator adds that Gina is also staying on the show. Goor said that letting those two people go would be a crime. Fans will get to see Holt and Gina as the show will follow them into their new world of PR.

The premiere episode will take place right where things left off with the squad facing the elevators waiting for the new captain. Actor Bill Hader has just been cast as the squad's new captain, who is only described as effective. He will be seen in the premiere episode, but fans will not know how long his guest stint will be.

The new season will introduce a new character named lieutenant Knox, and she will be played by former "The Good Wife" star Archie Panjabi. She will also be the new love interest for detective Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio).

Unfortunately, in the new season, fans will not get to see a smooth-sailing relationship between Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), even if the two did kiss in the last episode. Goor mentioned that Jake and Amy kissed during a traumatic time and that causes repercussions and problems that will have to be addressed. The personalities of Jake and Amy are so different that it will be very hard for them.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to return on Sept. 27.
