Bruce Jenner Interview Gets Air Date, 2-Hour Special Details Revealed
After months of speculation from the media, Bruce Jenner is breaking his silence about his changing appearance on a special interview with Diane Sawyer later this month.
The interview will air as a two-hour special on Friday, April 24 on ABC. The network confirmed this on Monday. According to Hollywood Reporter, Sawyer interviewed Jenner "some time ago," before his February auto accident on the Pacific Coast Highway in which one woman was killed.
There have been rumors and speculation that the physical transformation that the 65-year-old former Olympian has been undergoing for years is caused by gender reassignment. No other details about the interview have been revealed by ABC, but sources connected to Jenner and the network's production told TMZ that Jenner will put his male persona to rest for good when he appears on the special.
According to TMZ's source, Jenner views the show as a "farewell to Bruce." He will reportedly be presenting himself as a woman publicly for the first time. The source adds that Jenner will not reveal his new name, nor will he dress as a woman on camera.
Jenner will reportedly chronicle his life from age five, where he identified as a woman. The source adds that the Olympian, who did numerous interviews for the special over a period of time, will talk about the difficulties he's had in life living as a man but not feeling like one. He is also expected to share details about what kind of impact his decision made on his family.
Back in February, Jenner's mother, Esther, told Radar Online that she supports him "whole-heartedly" and is proud of him.
"Right now I am more proud of him for what he's allowing himself to do," said Esther to the website. "I am more proud of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck. He deserves all the respect."
