Bruno Mars' 'That's What I Like' Music Video Is the Male Version of 'Single Ladies'

Bruno Mars has just released a music video for his latest single, "That's What I Like," and it has been making waves. Both the song and the video look very iconic so much that it is letting off a vibe almost similar to another epic single.

The music video is made very simple — continuous shooting from start to finish, a bare setting, with Bruno Mars alone in every shot. Yet despite its simplicity, it exudes an entertaining aura with the doodles and animations, making it look very playful. The lighting varies from dim to bright, and perhaps the highlight of it all is his sick yet controlled dance moves.

Its monochromatic scheme and single frame throughout actually works in this video, as one is made to focus on the beat and his superb dancing. As it is, it somehow emulates the similar effect that instantly catapulted Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" into legend status.

Like Bruno Mars' "That's What I Like" music video, Queen B's "Single Ladies" operated on the videography's simplicity and just relied on the head-swaying music coupled with equally mesmerizing movements, making it an instant sensation. On this argument alone, one would think that Bruno Mars' video is taking inspiration from that of Beyoncé's, and it seems it aims to follow "Single Ladies'" footsteps even further.

Beyoncé's song was arguably one of her iconic singles, and it looks like Bruno Mars would like to bring his song close to that stature. The video has already amassed more than eight million hits after releasing it in just a few days and is currently holding the fourth spot in Billboard's Hot 100. With those numbers, he is off to a good start.

"That's What I Like" is Bruno Mars' single from "24K Magic," his latest album that scored more than 230,000 units during its first week alone. It is shaping up to be a great run for the singer.
