Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews, OLB Ramon Humber Out With Broken Thumbs

Buffalo Bills will have to play without wide receiver Jordan Matthews and outside linebacker Ramon Humber in the coming weeks because both of them are expected to undergo surgeries to repair their injured thumbs.

There is currently no timetable for Humber's return, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and WGR550's Sal Capaccio have reported that Matthews is expected to miss at least a month of action after the surgery. Both starters suffered the thumb injuries in the Bills' 23–17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday.

Matthews had two catches for 10 yards before he exited the game in the fourth quarter, and he also scored his first touchdown as a member of the Bills during the game. With him on the sidelines, Zay Jones is expected to see an increase in workload. The rookie has struggled so far this season, but Bills head coach Sean McDermott thinks he's going to do fine moving forward.

"I thought Zay [Jones] did some really good things in the game. Zay has to do his job, just like the rest of us have to do our 1/11th. The young man works extremely, extremely hard, and he's going through what normal rookies go through, that are expected to come in and play right away," McDermott said on Monday, via Bills Wire.

Rapoport has also reported that the Bills have signed Philly Brown to add more depth at wide receiver.

Meanwhile, Matt Milano is expected to get the start at outside linebacker in Humber's place when the Bills take on the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday. The rookie linebacker played 34 snaps after Humber got hurt.

"At this point yes. I thought Matt did some good things in the game ... we're getting contributions from our young players. I look forward to Matt continuing to improve this week on his individual performance." McDermott stated, according to Bills Wire.
