Buffalo Sabres NHL Trade Rumors 2017: Sabres Not Shopping Evander Kane Before Trade Deadline
The Buffalo Sabres still have an outside shot of making the playoffs, but pundits believe they will struggle to qualify in the Eastern Conference. With this in mind, many believe that they will be sellers at the trade deadline and left wing Evander Kane just happens to be one of the hottest commodities on the market right now. Will they ship him to another team before the trade deadline?
Kane has played well all season long, so the Sabres are obviously reluctant to give him up. In an interview with WGR 550 radio, general manager Tim Murray admitted that he wouldn't rule out a trade if another team offers him a deal he couldn't refuse. However, he also noted that he's not actively shopping his player.
"I'm not pursuing a trade with him. I haven't made a call, [with regard] to him, to other teams. I'm a big fan of his game. He plays in our top six. He plays a hard, gritty, heavy game — with speed. And that's a rare, rare combination. He's the type of guy I think we need, if we want to be competitive every night and be a playoff team," Murray said, according to NBC Sports.
The Sabres acquired Kane from the Winnipeg Jets back in Feb. 2015. He already has 16 goals and 10 assists in 43 games this season and it doesn't look like he's slowing down any time soon. He's a great player, but his off-ice issues are a concern.
Well, the Sabres can always keep him beyond the trade deadline. They can always move him in the offseason if they want. Right now, it seems that Kane is staying with the Sabres unless Murray receives an offer that can blow him away. If Kane is really off the trading block, the Sabres can still trade away defenseman Dmitry Kulikov.
