California's Bear Fire in Santa Cruz Mountains 2017 News: 150 Evacuated, Firefighters Injured
The fires in the counties of Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Yuba, have taken more than 40 lives and turned thousands of homes into rubble as it burned through more than 200,000 acres of land area.
Now, new fires have started to breach through Northern California, including The Bear fire in Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz, which has resulted to the evacuation of about 150 residents, according to Los Angeles Times.
Currently, there are evacuation centers at Lake View Elementary School and at the Zayante Fire station.
As of Tuesday night this week, the Bear Fire had devoured 271 acres of land area and destroyed several structures. Fortunately, there are no reported casualties, but five firefighters reportedly suffered some injuries as they were traveling across the steep terrain. Reports also say that only five percent of the area had been contained.
According to ABC News 7, the fast-spreading blaze started as a house fire that took place late Monday night, near Bear Creek and Deer Creek roads.
Although the fires have spread out all over the state of California, firefighters stated that resources to alleviate the situation will not be an issue. They will also be using air crafts to put out the flames, but as of now, they are using only three, instead of six, due to the heavy smoke.
More reinforcements are reportedly coming in this week.
Meanwhile, a search team of 200 members is recently working on finding 26 missing Santa Rosa residents, as per Mercury News. The Sonoma County Sheriff's office, on the other hand, is said to be looking for 27 missing people.
Also, Sheriff Rob Giordano revealed that his deputies had arrested 17 crime doers within the fire zone, including a man, who has been charged with arson after admitting to having started a small fire in Maxwell Park, near Sonoma.
