The publisher also shared that this year's installment of the first-person shooter franchise will be going "back to its roots."

The revelations come after last year's "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" didn't exactly win fans over right from day one. That game's launch trailer famously drew the ire of many fans online.
Activision also acknowledged the fans' reception, sharing that "Infinite Warfare's" "space setting didn't resonate."
Given these new revelations, it's easy to see why fans are showing their optimism for this new "Call of Duty" game.
Sledgehammer Games, the developer who will be working on the upcoming game, expressed their excitement over their new project in a recent tweet. Some fans who commented on the tweet shared their excitement as well, while others are asking Sledgehammer Games to not disappoint them.
The setting of the new game will likely have a huge impact on what kind of experience it will ultimately offer, and to this point at least, neither Activision nor Sledgehammer Games have provided specific details about it.
An earlier tweet from the developer drew the attention of many fans, however, as it featured a bunch of gears working together. Twitter user "@Red_meme_queen" even indicated that the tweet could mean that the next game will be set in World War II-era London and other fans seem to like that idea.
A game set in that time period and in that location could certainly enable the developers to feature more "traditional combat," though with confirmation still lacking, fans will still have to keep waiting for now.
