'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' Awakening DLC news: First Pack Includes 4 New Maps

Players of Activision's "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will soon receive brand-new maps. The new content is part of the first of four DLCs promised to come to the game.

Activision made the announcement during last weekend's PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, California. In its keynote address, the video game publisher revealed details of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's" first DLC map pack.

The map pack is called Awakening. It will come with four multiplayer maps, namely Gauntlet, Splash, Rise, and Skyjacked.

Based on the promotional image from Activision, Rise seems to be a large construction zone covered in snow. Splash looks like a water park, what with its pools and slides.

Skyjacked is rumored to be a remade map based on "Black Ops 2's" Hijacked map. Hijacked featured boats in the seven seas. Based on the image, GameRant thinks the rumor sounds believable and suggests Skyjacked exchanged the boats for futuristic flying spaceships and the seven seas setting was transferred to the sky.

As for Gauntlet, the image shows the map having several environments. According to GameRant, this could mean that the map would feature a randomly selected biome, have several biomes within it, or its environment could change as the map is played.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will also include the next chapter of "Der Eisendrache." For those uninclined, "Der Eisendrache" is "Black Ops 3's" zombie saga.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's" Awakening DLC is expected to arrive early next year. Activision has promised it will announce more details about the DLC soon.

When it does arrive, the DLC will release first to PlayStation 4 because of a standing exclusivity contract between Activision and Sony. After 30 days or one month, the Awakening DLC will become available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 players.
