'Call of Duty Black Ops 3' DLC News: Game Proceeds to Benefit Veterans
'Call of Duty' endowment provides jobs to veterans after their service military service.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops III" players can now send their support to military veterans with the purchase of calling cards worth $4 each.
Video game publisher Activision announced this special promotion coinciding Memorial Day weekend, Gamespot said. All players gamers need to do to extend help to the veterans is to buy three animated calling cards for $4 each.
The three cards, as per Cinema Blend, show images that represent the main branches of the military in the United States — Army, Navy and Air Force. One card shows two soldiers standing beside a tank, the other bears an image of an old fighter plane while the last bears an image of military divers.
The project is under the Call of Duty Endowmnent which gives military veterans sure jobs after they rendered service to the country. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick started the charity seven years ago to help former military men struggling to find work and means to support their families.
Its official website reveals that there is a high unemployment rate of 15 percent among veterans in the United States. It was also noted that with only $600 from donations and support for the charity, one veteran can already land a job.
"To date, the Call of Duty community has contributed over $1 million to our efforts to help veterans through the in-game program," said the program's executive director Dan Goldenberg in the Gamespot report. This amount has enabled the Call of Duty Endowment to give about 23,000 to veterans since its establishment.
The Call of Duty Endowment executive director also said that both Sony and Microsoft dedicated their efforts for this program and has been very generous in supporting veterans. The generosity of the companies has been overflowing, Goldenberg added.
On the other hand, video game developer Treyarch, said it also supports the mission of the charity. Treyarch's Studio Head Mark Lamia said players can simply purchase a card to help former military men hoping to find jobs after their service. "[This allows the community to] make a meaningful impact to this worthy cause," Lamia added.
Aside from giving job offerings to veterans, the Call of Duty Endowment also arms these former military men with necessary skills and training they need to get stable jobs. They post job offerings and also assist veterans make resumes to help them standout during their application.
It was added on the charity's official website that employers need to get a good grasp of the qualifications and skills of these former officers to give them civilian jobs. These veterans reportedly have an above-average performance handling civilian jobs.
