'Call of Duty' News: Next 'Call of Duty' Game Coming In Q4 2016, Will Be Developed By Infinity Ward
One of the studios behind the development of the successful "Call of Duty" franchise, Infinity Ward, is developing the next game in the military first-person shooter series, according to a report in IGN. The next "Call of Duty" game was also announced to be arriving sometime during the 4th quarter of 2016.
The game's publisher, Activision, made the announcement, saying that "an innovative new" game is coming to the franchise during the latter part of the year.
The same piece of news was confirmed by developer Infinity Ward through a post on Twitter, saying "COD 2016. Now it's official. Can't wait to show you what we've been developing! #CallofDuty"
Infinity Ward is one of the studios responsible for developing games in the "Call of Duty" series. The last game in the series that it developed was "Call of Duty: Ghosts" which was released in 2013. Now that three years have passed, it is their turn in the development cycle, according to the IGN report.
In the franchise, Infinity Ward is known for its "Modern Warfare" series as well as the "Ghosts" setting. The announcement, however, did not indicate whether the studio would continue working with the settings that they had earlier made for some of the games in the franchise.
The other developers include Treyarch Studios ("Black Ops III) and Sledgehammer Games ("Advanced Warfare").
According to another report in GameSpot, the 2016 "Call of Duty" is not expected to top the earnings of the more recent game in the series "Call of Duty: Black Ops III," but overall, Activision's revenue performance with regards to the franchise is still expected to increase partly because of the franchise's DLC for "Black Ops III."
IGN also reported that the franchise has sold over 250 million units globally and "Black Ops III" was ranked as the number one game in Activision's line-up worldwide. In North America, the franchise has also been number one for the past seven years.
