Cameron Douglas Out of Solitary Confinement, May Be Able to See Parents

Cameron Douglas is finally out of solitary confinement, perhaps thanks to the efforts of his father, actor Michael Douglas. Michael Douglas chose to address the situation during his Emmy acceptance speech two years ago, leading to a new push for the younger Douglas to be moved back into general population.

"It's true," Anthony Papa of the Drug Policy Alliance told Radar Online. "That's what I heard. It actually happened a little while back. I'm not sure of the exact date."

Cameron had been in solitary confinement for nearly two years after relapsing on drugs while incarcerated. He was already sentenced to five years in 2009 after being found guilty of conspiracy to distribute narcotics. However, a judge added four-and-a-half years in 2011 when he was caught with drugs. The decision to keep Cameron in solitary confinement for so long greatly upset his father.

"If you happen to have a slip," Michael said during his speech, it ends in extra punishment, not help. "In my son's case, he has spent almost two years in solitary confinement. Right now I've been told that I can't see him for two years. It's been over a year now. And I'm questioning the system."

He wasn't the only one. Cameron's mother, Diandra Luker, joined with Michael and Papa to post a petition asking for visiting rights. That petition was then taken down so as not to cause Cameron any more problems or spread rumors of favorable treatment because of his celebrity status.

Cameron is scheduled to be released in 2018 if all goes according to plan and he does not get in any more trouble while in prison. For now, though, his family just wants to be able to see him again. It's unknown if they will be able to see him now that he is out of solitary confinement, but Papa is already working to see what he can do to reunite the family.

"I'm not sure if they will be allowed to visit," he said, but Cameron is out of solitary."
