Canelo Alvarez vs Golovkin or Mayweather Fight News: Juan Manuel Marquez believes Canelo can beat Golovkin, but will have a hard time against Mayweather in rematch

Newly crowned lineal world middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez solidified his elite status in boxing recently after emerging victorious against four-division world champion Miguel Cotto.

Alvarez, for his part, rightfully gained a major confidence boost after the fight that he called out fellow 160-pound world champion Gennady Golovkin during his post-fight interview with HBO Boxing's Max Kellerman.

"My respect to him, but I would put the gloves back on and fight him right now," the 25-year old Alvarez said through a translator.

In a report by Boxingscene.com, Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to the WBC middleweight title, which Alvarez now holds. Which is why Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez is hoping that the said bout between Alvarez and Golovkin would actually happen.

"Hopefully the WBC respects the official challenger and they give Golovkin the opportunity and not wait for the Golovkin fight after two years," said Marquez. "That would be unjust if that happens. From what I saw of Canelo, he would give a great fight to Golovkin."

"It would be an important and good fight, because we saw [Canelo] evade punches [with Cotto] and we know Golovkin is a come forward fighter," he added. "If Canelo boxes him like he did tonight, evading punches, but [creating] counter attacks afterwards then it would be an interesting fight, a fight he could probably win on points."

But while Marquez is confident about his fellow Mexican's chances against the hard-hitting Golovkin, he is apprehensive about a rematch between Alvarez and retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both Marquez and Alvarez have had the opportunity to face "Money May", in 2009 and 2013, respectively. They both lost by unanimous decision.

Canelo's promoter Oscar De La Hoya is eyeing for a rematch against Mayweather, but Marquez explained why he thinks it will not be a good idea.

"We know Mayweather doesn't like to exchange and fight, and to fight that style is tough for Canelo," Marquez explained. "We saw tonight in some rounds Cotto made him look bad [by] moving well on his feet."

"The important thing is Canelo has advanced well, but if he fights an elusive fighter, a fighter that moves, it's hard for him."
