Capcom Posts Huge Earning for Q3 Thanks to Two Switch Games

Capcom posted huge strides in the third quarter of the year, and it has two key titles from Nintendo's flagship console partly to thank.

The Japan-based gaming giant reported that Digital Contents, the company's gaming division, grew 23 percent compared to the same period in 2016. It sales for the third quarter stood at ¥20 billion.

Meanwhile, its operating income increased dramatically by 248.4 percent year-over-year, earning ¥3.8 billion last quarter. Interestingly, Capcom gave a shoutout to two of its games on the Nintendo Switch platform that helped boost their sales. Capcom noted that "Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross)" "performed strongly" for them.

Furthermore, they also lauded "Ultra Street Fighter II The Final Challengers" for becoming a "smash hit" for the console. Apart from the two Switch titles, they also mentioned that "Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross)" for the Nintendo 3DS systems "also contributed to the increase in revenues to a certain extent."

In addition, Gamespot reported that Capcom recently confirmed that "Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite" has shipped 900,000 copies during the third quarter of the year. Another marquee title, "Resident Evil 7," has also eclipsed the 4 million mark in copies sold since its launch back in January of this year.

Last month, Capcom said that despite hitting 4 million in shipped copies, the game still fell short of its target of the same target by the end of its fiscal year last March 31. Gamespot reported that the company only shipped 3.5 million units by the end of the fiscal year.

"It is a solid start, considering the short span between launch and fiscal year end. Further, unit sales for both titles continue to grow even now," explained Capcom in a post-earnings Q&A.

Capcom had already announced earlier that its long-term goal for "Resident Evil 7" is to ship 10 million copies throughout the title's lifetime.
