Captain America: Civil War collects more than $200 million in overseas box office
Captain America: Civil War hasn't hit U.S. theaters just yet, but the latest American superhero film from Marvel Comics already made a whopping $200.2 million in the first weekend of its release in movie theaters overseas.
It certainly looks like the summer will be made up of blockbusters all season long, and this Disney-Marvel collaboration has the makings of surpassing the earnings of "Iron Man 3" and "Avengers," according to Variety. Although it is described as a sequel, the way it is receiving praise, at least in the overseas market, makes it more like a separate installment.
There is more than enough good reason why "Captain America: Civil War" made an impressive weekend debut. Aside from the popularity of Chris Evans' character, the intricate and intriguing plot is more than enough to convince moviegoers not to miss it. Captain America's clash with Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., is like the Avengers' version of Batman vs Superman, although it came with more positive reviews. Aside from those two regulars, the film also introduces Spiderman and Black Panther, played by Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman respectively.

The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," while the ensemble cast is made up of Evans, Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Paul Bethany, Frank Gillo, Emily VanCamp, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, William Hurt, and Daniel Bruhl.
The foreign debut is as impressive as it gets, comprising 37 territories where Hollywood films like it are usually shown. The number represents the earnings in about 60% of the international movie market. The film will have its U.S. premiere on May 6 and there is a good chance it will surpass the total earnings of the previous huge hits this year, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Deadpool.
