'Captain Marvel' Cast News, Update: Star Emily Blunt Gives Her Insights On Casting Rumors
Rumors linking Emily Blunt's name to Marvel's upcoming superhero big screen offering "Captain Marvel" keeps on popping up from time to time with each occurrence adding new details to the speculations. However, a recent interview with the action star might put a halt on all these talks.
A report from Collider.com shared an interview with Blunt during the Toronto International Film Festival for her latest crime thriller film from Denis Velleneuve, "Sicario." The conversation expectedly segued to tread on the matter of who is playing the heroine.
The English actress told the media outlet that "no one has approached" her yet for the role.
"I have received not one phone call about Captain Marvel," she told Collider.
Despite admitting that she's no fan of Carol Danvers, the 32-year-old did seem to suggest that she would gladly take the part if, and only if, she fits for the role.
"It's not necessarily that I'm desperate to be in a Marvel movie or desperate to be a in a different movie. It's all dependent on the part for me," she said.
Blunt meanwhile shared her opinion, this time with the people over at Indiewire.com (via Cinema Blend), on why her name is often being included when it comes to superhero movie roles.
In her words, she said that "it's because the list is very short, because we don't see women in these kind of roles."
Naming three other Hollywood women like Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie, Blunt assumes that rumors like these happen because people would be thinking "who else? Surely not another girl can wield a gun."
Blunt herself came into the senses of movie-goers when she took the part opposite of Tom Cruise in "Edge of Tomorrow" where she was seen pulling off a terrific (based on reviews) performance as Sergeant Rita Rose Vrataski.
But several media outlets including Cinema Blend sounded off their opinion saying that new and upcoming female actors can be just as capable of handling the part as these experienced ones.
Regardless of which, the decision as to who is more fit to wear the suit remains at the hands of Marvel who previously announced a November 2, 2018 outing date of the aforementioned movie
