Carjacking Suspect Shot by Clayton County Police After Turning Gun on Officer
A carjacking suspect has been shot by a Clayton County police officer, police have reported.
According to news reports, the shooting happened about 11 p.m. when three suspects were fleeing in a stolen Volkswagen Sedan; they later fled on foot.
"At some point during the foot pursuit, a male turned, produced a firearm and pointed it at the officer," Clayton police Sgt. Kevin Hughes told Channel 2.
Hughes said the officer fired, striking the subject once. The suspect suffered a gunshot wound to his lower extremities, considered to be a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. Police are still searching for the other two suspects.
This was the second shooting in three days involving a Clayton County police officer. Previously a man was shot after he shot Officer Melvin Snell in the shoulder. The man, who was involved in a domestic dispute, died in the incident.
