Carmelo Anthony News: Little Kid Runs Onto Court to Hug Anthony, Briefly Interrupts Game
The Monday night game between the New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans was briefly interrupted because of a rare comical occurrence.
During a dead ball situation at the 0:51.2 mark of the fourth quarter, a young boy suddenly ran towards the playing court from the stands, ran towards Knicks' forward Carmelo Anthony, and gave the player a hug.
The referee then escorted him out of the court a few moments after, as the boy willingly obliged and ran back towards the stands. The video of the said moment could be seen on SBNation.com.
The Knicks did end up losing the game with a score of 99-91.
But as far as the incident goes, Anthony says he was simply shocked at what happened, as he did not immediately notice that it was a young boy that was running towards him.
"It was a little kid. I was shocked," Anthony said in an ESPN report. "I didn't really know who was it until I actually looked over and saw that it was a kid."
Melo further added that having a young boy run up to him in such a manner was a "once in a lifetime opportunity" for him, adding that there is no need for an apology from the little kid's end. He did, however raise the fact that such an occurrence could be seen as a security issue.
"I think it was because he was a little kid, they just let him go. Definitely a security issue, though, for sure," Anthony said, who added that the situation should not be blown out of proportion.
The report adds that the incident could very well be a violation of the "Calvin Klein Law", which was passed and put in place in New York City in 2003. The said law was written after designer Calvin Klein walked into the playing court and attempted to speak with Latrell Sprewell, who was then playing for the Knicks.
