Carmelo's Mysterious Fast: Knicks Player Ends 15-Day Spiritual Cleanse

Carmelo has announced that he is ending his fast after embarking on a 15-day spiritual cleanse.

Knicks player Carmelo Anthony offered some insight into his team's recent defeats on Sunday after confessing that he had been on a 15-day fast.

"It's a long story. I haven't had a good meal in about 2 1/2 weeks. No meats, no carbs, anything like that," Anthony told a Newsday reporter.

But the diet has been taking a toll on the player, prompting Melo to state that he was done with his "spiritual" adventure. Since the beginning of 2013, the Knicks have gone 3-4, with two of those wins coming from lower-tiered teams on the NBA.

"I don't know how I was going through competing at a high level. Just sometimes these past three, four games where the body just feels depleted out there and just trying to find a way to get energy," the player added.

Although with a drooping team record, some fans might suggest that he wasn't "going through" the past few games at all. Sunday's win against the Hornets offered a brief glimpse of hope, one that hopefully will continue now that Carmelo has stated that he is done depriving himself of food.

"I usually do it sometimes just to get some clarity in my life. Spiritual reasons," Anthony explained adding, "I'm done now. I can't do it no more."

Anthony shares a home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wife, Lala. He did not elaborate on what had driven him to pursue a spiritual fast. But while the fast is over, Anthony also said that it is something that he does once a year.

"It's for my own sake,'' Anthony told The New York Post. "Sometimes in life you've got to replenish your body, build your body back up and get all the toxins out. [Get] all the things you don't need in your body out. I do this every year, once a year."
