Carrie Underwood's Husband Defends Hunting in Instagram Post

Carrie Underwood's husband, Mike Fisher, received some backlash after a recent post on Instagram that portrayed his love for hunting. Fisher has responded to his critics and defended his hobby on his social media account.

The backlash that the former National Hockey League star received originated from an Instagram video, wherein he caught a deer on camera. Although it was supposed to be Fisher's target, he posted that the law requires that the deer must have horns that are big enough to easily grab or lasso before it can be considered a legal kill. As a result, Fisher further shared that the deer will have to get a pass.

Fans following his social media account responded negatively, as many viewed hunting as violent and unfair to the animals. Fisher has since responded in the comments section of the post and defended the practice as a way of protecting the deer population, as the increase allows for a more evenly distributed food chain. His statement was supported by a fellow hunter, who said that hunting deer will allow smaller animals to feed, as the decrease in the population of deer means that the low-hanging branches are left for other herbivores to eat.

Last week, Fisher also caused quite a stir, but this time for different reasons. He showed off his love for hunting on his Instagram account as he dressed in a camouflage outfit and posed as if he caught his wife, Underwood, in a net. The two recently attended the 51st Annual Country Music Awards.

Fisher formerly played for the Nashville Predators. He retired this year after 17 seasons and 1,088 games. Though many were saddened by the news, Underwood expressed her appreciation for Fisher and expressed that she was excited to see where life will take him after his hockey career. Underwood and Fisher have been married since 2010.
