'Castle' Season 8 Spoilers: Major Shake Ups Revealed

Alexi Hawley, the new co-executive producer for ABC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Castle" reveals some major career changes for the show's major character, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic).

The report from TV Line cited Hawley's statement made during the recently-held Television Critics Association press tour party.

"At the end of the day, we came into this season wanting to shake things up," he told the publication. "The show has been doing a great job with what's its been doing, but now we've been given an opportunity to really sort of add some energy into it."

Joining in the panel is Terence Paul Winter, who is also the show's new executive producer. He said that getting Beckett running for office is "something we absolutely considered, and it's not like it's off the table."

"What we realized is that the best way to tell Castle's stories is to have Castle investigating twisty, fun cases. And the best way to do that is to keep Beckett in the precinct," he told TV Line.

Hawley went on to add:

"The important thing to say about [Rick and Kate] is that the show has always been and will always be about their love affair. But we're looking to add some drama to it, some spark to it. We're going to have fun. It's going to be emotional at times, it will be romantic…. It will be everything."

Aside from Beckett's new assignment, Season 8 is also filled to the brim with new players including Toks Olagundoye ("The Neighbors) as security specialist Hayley Shipton. A recurring character, Vikram Singh (played by Sunkrish Bala), is also returning to spice things up for the upcoming instalment.

"Castle" returns to ABC Monday, Sept. 21 at 10/9c.
