"Castle" will be joined by a new cast member, who is none other than Gerald McRaney from "Simon & Simon," and fans can't wait to see what the veteran actor will bring in the second half of the eighth season.
According to TV Line, McRaney will play the character Mason Wood, who is said to be the leader of a legendary secret private detective society. The website said that 68-year-old actor will be first appearing in the 14th episode of "Castle" season 8, but not much is known about what his character will do. However, the report confirmed that he will appear in the reunion episode of former "Firefly" stars, Nathan Fillion, who now plays Richard Castle in the series, and Summer Glau.
Meanwhile, the two lead stars of the show, Fillion and Stana Katic, with the latter portraying the NYPD detective, Kate Beckett, won big in the 42nd People's Choice Awards, according to the International Business Times. The website said that fans voted for Katic and Fillion to be the winner of this year's Favorite Crime Drama TV Actress and Favorite Crime Drama TV Actor categories, respectively. Fans took their excitement and congratulated both actors on Twitter after the announcement.
Katic won over the other nominated Hollywood actresses like Mariska Hargitay ("Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"), Pauley Perrette ("NCIS"), Emily Deschanel ("Bones"), and Lucy Liu ("Elementary"), while Fillion defeated LL Cool J ("NCIS: Los Angeles"), Mark Harmon ("NCIS"), Jim Caviezel ("Person of Interest"), and Shemar Moore ("Criminal Minds"). The award was Katic's third trophy from the People's Choice Awards for the category, and it was Fillion's fourth.
"Castle" season 8 episode 9, which is titled "Tone Death," was directed by Hanelle Culpepper and written by Robert Bella.
The midseason premiere of "Castle" season 8 will air on Feb. 1 on ABC.
