'Castle' Season 8 Spoilers Rumors: Is It Really Over Between Rick and Kate?
It's been an exhilarating roller-coaster ride for the two-parter premiere episode of Season 8 of ABC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Castle." Fans were left utterly shocked towards the end of the primer with Kate (Stana Katic) asking Rick (Nathan Fillion) some space from their marriage.
The total game-changer sparked mixed reactions from fans who were closely following Fillion and Katic's on-screen romance. But for what it's worth, the creators assured that this development will surely make the show more exciting to watch.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter clarified that despite what many have been afraid of, there really won't be any divorce happening.
Hawley admitted that the plot twist was rather "a bold choice" they have to take. Sure, they were barraged by people on social media for the decision they made for the couple. The showrunner, however, saw the move to throw obstacles in Castle and Beckett's way as an opportunity "to make them ultimately stronger as a couple" once they're able to get past through the trial.
"It adds drama, it adds comedy, it adds a lot of different layers which, as we go forward, we use to breathe some new life and energy into the show," the EP told THR.
Hawley added that the breakup "was about what [Castle and Beckett's relationship] is going to feel new and how can we get these characters going through a different journey than they've ever gone through before?"
Winter chimed in to say that at the end of all the drama and tension, what Beckett did is all "out of love." As many could see it, it really is her intention to protect Castle, not because she is interested in other people or she has already grown out of love of their marriage.
"Castle's definitely what she wants and she's willing to fight for it," Winter confirmed to THR.
With that issue already settled, the new episode titled "PhDead" hints that Castle will go undercover as a college professor when a local fraternity student is found dead. What starts to be an investigation of the victim's life turns to reveal some of the deepest, darkest secrets held by the university.
"Castle" Season 8 airs Mondays at ABC.
