'Castle' Season 8 Spoilers, Renewal News: All-Time Low Ratings Spark Rumors Of Cancellation

Despite the raving positive reviews it's enjoyed since it aired its Season 8 premiere, ABC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Castle" has suffered some serious all-time low ratings which, according to the rumors, might cause the Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic-fronted show to be cancelled. Meanwhile, the next installment of the show is expected to see one character from the previous seasons return.

New showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter promised to put in more fun and excitement into the new season. True enough, the Season 8 premiere presented some exciting twists and turns. However, fans, as evident in the numbers, were not exactly thrilled with the Castle and Beckett breakup storyline.

Citing further a report from CarterMatt.com, it was revealed that the last episode, titled "The Nose," drew a low 1.1 rating in the 18-49 age group. Though many people would attribute the show's low performance to the NFL football game and the release of the new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer, the numbers didn't really stray that far from the other episodes in the current season.

However, MovieNewsGuide.com attributes the waning attention of the public to the show's move to separate Richard Castle from Kate Beckett.

Whether these theories should be taken as a basis or not, it remains to be seen if the network will still greenlight a ninth season of the series.

For the meantime, Season 8 continues next week with an episode titled "Cool Boys." According to the spoiler reports from LatinPost.com, the new segment will see actor Adam Baldwin returning in the show to reprise his role as Det. Ethan Slaughter. Fans may remember last seeing him in Season 4 where he worked alongside Castle to crack down a crazy mystery.

Slaughter is said to bring some thrill and excitement into the graying world of Castle. Viewers may recall Castle almost getting killed off due to Slaughter's rash and "downright crazy" tactics of solving cases. Having vowed never to work with him again, Castle might once again find himself in harm's way.

"Castle" Season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
