'Castle' Season 8 spoilers & update: Kate on the run, Rick will hunt for missing wife, new cast revealed

The return of the hit crime drama television series "Castle" is almost near and fans can't wait to follow Richard "Rick" Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett's (Stana Katic) adventures again. But the eighth installment is going to be a different one from the usual as the show will be shaken up a bit to bring in more drama, energy and fun into it.

For starters, Kate will no longer be a detective when the show returns. According to TV Line, she will now take over the captain's office and it's really for a logical reason. Co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter revealed that Kate's new career path will keep her in the precinct, which will allow Castle to continue investigating "twisty, fun cases."

But it looks like Kate won't be around the precinct for a while as reports say that she is "set to disappear" in the premiere of Season 8. Enstarz detailed that the first episode will be titled "XY," which will follow through Castle's perspective, while the second episode, "XX," will be through Kate's eyes. The synopsis of the second episode has already been released and it says that the former detective will be on the run to fight for her life after she receives a mysterious tip from her past. A team of mercenaries are after her and Castle is not wasting time as he looks for his wife and investigates the situation. Meanwhile, Kate will need to determine who wants to kill her before they get to it.

In other news, Sunkrish Bala ("The Walking Dead", "Modern Family") and Toks Olagundoye ("The Neighbors") will be joining the show. According to Fashion & Style, Bala will be playing the role of tech analyst Vikram Singh while Olagundoye will be playing as Haley, the security specialist who is known to be spending lots of time with Castle in the new season. But contrary to gossips, things between them will be strictly professional. After all, the showrunners have made it clear that the show is really about the love affair of Beckett and Castle.

Other guest stars include Coby Ryan McLaughlin as Brooks, Daisy Betts as A.J. and Jack Coleman will be returning as Senator Will Bracken.

"Castle" season 8 premieres Monday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
