'Castlevania' Creator Gets Funding for Revival Game 'Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night'

"Castlevania" creator Koji "IGA" Igarashi is back in the "game" of building video games. The former producer at Konami recently secured funding for his new game called "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night."

Igarashi presented his game concept and sample game art on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter and barely 4 hours after posting, was able to reach beyond his funding goal of $500,000 to get the game off the ground, according to a Tech Times report. His campaign reached $584,577 with 7,881 supporters and with 32 days more to go before the campaign period ends.

Igarashi is known for his work on the "Castlevania" series of games while he was still with Konami. Konami still owns the rights to the game, which is a fighting video game which is set in a gothic world. Igarashi was responsible for converting them into "sprawling, exploratory adventures like "Symphony of the Night" and "Dawn of Sorrow." A report in The Verge also described his design style as unique and "unmistakable" that subsequent games became known as "Igavanias."

The upcoming game is definitely an "Igavania" judging by the game's concept art. The Verge report also cites that the game has reportedly broke through $1M funding on Kickstarter, 24 hours after it was posted. This proves Igarashi right that people still want to see games such as these. In the video he posted on Kickstarter, he said: "Publishers of the world told me that gamers no longer care for this style of game. But I know they are wrong!"

Based on the concept art, the game's lead character will be Miriam, described as "an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes your skin" who will have to fight through a castle full of demons. The game will make use of Unreal Engine 4 and will be 2.5D, not 3D. Given the game's limited resources, Igarashi insisted that the game has to remain 2.5D.

This will be Igarashi's first project after leaving Konami over a year ago. The game will be developed by Inti Creates, while the game's music will be done by "Castlevania" composer Michiru Yamane and Ippo Yamada. David Hayter, who voiced Solid Snake in the "Metal Gear Solid" series, will voice the villain Gebel.
