Caterpillar is Making Another Smartphone - Cat S4
Caterpillar Inc. is better known for manufacturing construction machinery and equipment. It is one of the world's leading makers of equipment that is used for construction and mining. However, the company ventured into the mobile phone market in 2013. The company is apparently adding a new phone to its mobile product line with a new smartphone.
A Tech Times report said that the company is coming out with a smartphone that is designed for the outdoors. Called the Cat S4, the new phone is one that will probably survive any construction site in the world.
The phone's niche in the market is for those who are either working in construction sites or other dangerous jobs or those who love the outdoors. Among its features is its ability to withstand high temperatures and other conditions in the harshest environment. It is shock-proof and drop-proof, with its Military Standard 810G certification. It will not break when dropped from up to six feet. It also has an IP68 certification being dust-proof and water proof up to under six feet of water for an hour.
Other phone features make it the ideal phone to have on hand in certain situations. It has a glove-on feature which allows users to use its touch-screen even with gloves. It also has wet finger-tracking technology making it usable even with wet hands.
It is equipped with Gorilla Glass 4 which is said to prevent scratches. Its display is a 4.7-inch Quad HD super bright display screen which lets the user read the screen even in sunlight.
Under the hood however, it is only powered by a quad-core 1.1 GHz Snapdragon 210 processor running on only 1 GB of RAM. While it runs the latest Android OS, the Android 5.1 Lollipop, its internal storage is only limited to 16 GB, expandable via microSD up to 64 GB only.
Battery-wise, it packs one that is considered the highest capacity battery that Caterpillar ever had on any of its phones. With a non-removable 3,000 mAh battery, the phone is said to have 18 hours of talk time and 39 days of stand-by time. Its main camera is an 8-megapixel one that can shoot 1080p video while its secondary camera is only 2-megapixel.
The phone will be released on Aug. 1 and will sell for $620.
