CBS in the Works for 'Nancy Drew' Series, to Feature a Grown-Up Nancy

Reboots, adaptations and bringing classics back is so popular nowadays in the TV world. Joining in the bandwagon is the "Nancy Drew" series. According to Deadline, CBS is in the works of developing a drama series based on the Nancy Drew character from the iconic mystery book series.

But this time around, it won't revolve around a sweet teen detective Nancy that most people know of, and that's probably mainly because of Emma Roberts' 2007 "Nancy Drew" movie. Instead, it will be a contemporary take on the character, according to the source. She will be in her 30's already and works as a detective for NYPD.

With her exceptional skills in observing, she goes about her day solving mysteries and crimes. In between, she deals with the "complexities of life in a modern world," which can perhaps be interpreted as trying to deal with the dating scene.

And with that pitch, it's safe to say then that fans will be saying goodbye to the days of Nancy sleuthing around along with her two best childhood buddies, Bess Marvin and George Fayne, and saying hello to a Manhattan detective with a Five-O on her side.

Reports say that longtime "Grey's Anatomy" executive producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan are going to work together to write the adaptation and will executive produce with Oscar-winning producer Dan Jinks of "American Beauty." Nick Nantell will be the producer.

As detailed by Vulture, the "Nancy Drew" franchise has gone through several iterations since it was created back in 1930. It was such a big hit that the original book series sold more than 80 million copies worldwide. A movie adaptation was also released in which Bonita Granville starred as the young detective in the late '30s. In the 70's, ABC aired "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" show. The latest of the franchise was that of Emma Roberts movie. There are also Nancy Drew computer games available for those who want to experience being the girl detective.
