CBS Working on 'Magnum P.I.' Reboot
CBS is producing a reboot of the '80s action drama "Magnum P.I" starring the charismatic Tom Selleck.
Peter Lenkov, the man behind the reboots of "Hawaii Five-O" and "MacGyver" has been tasked to pen the script of the cop drama "Magnum P.I" along with Eric Guggenheim.
"The Blacklist" producers John Davis and John Fox will serve as executive producers of the potential series.
Much like the original Hawaii-based action series, the story follows former Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum, who was once portrayed by Selleck. The decorated soldier returns home after serving in Afghanistan and enters the private sector by opening private investigative services. With his acquired military skills, Magnum will solve cases no one else wants.
The soldier-turned-private-investigator will team up with fellow veterans Theodore "TC" Calvin and Orville "Rick" Wright. The former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins will also lend her skills to the group.
The series seeks to explore the brotherhood forged from these veterans' shared experiences of the trauma of combat.
Selleck is not expected to star in the upcoming reboot, but given his connections to CBS and CBS Television Studios, the actor, who now stars in "Blue Bloods," might make a cameo in the forthcoming TV show.
"Magnum P.I" debuted in 1980 on CBS. It was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson, and ran for eight seasons. The reboot is a co-production between the original producers Universal Television and CBS Television Studios, where Lenkov is based.
ABC attempted to score a reboot last year, which was more of a sequel centering on Magnum's daughter. Eva Longoria and John Rogers pitched the Universal Television entry.
As of now, details about the reboot remain scarce. No cast members have been announced. And a potential release date has yet to be set.
Stay tuned for more updates.
