Chamique Holdsclaw Arrested for Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend
Chamique Holdsclaw has been arrested after an assault on her ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Lacy. Holdsclaw allegedly shot into Lacy's car after breaking its windows with a bat; thankfully no one was injured.
Holdsclaw was immediately arrested in Atlanta, and her bond was set at $10,000. She has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of second-degree criminal damage, and reckless conduct. Holdsclaw turned herself in to police after an arrest warrant was issued.
Lacy was working out when Holdsclaw asked if she could put some items in her vehicle, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. As Lacy drove away, she smelled gasoline inside her vehicle and drove to a friend's house. Holdsclaw followed Lacy the entire time, then got out of the vehicle with a bat, broke Lacy's windows and fired a gun into the SUV.
Both women played for the WNBA's Atlanta Dream in 2009 and began seeing each other during that time. Their relationship ended, and now Lacy plays for the Tulsa Shock, while Chamique Holdsclaw left the WNBA. It is unknown what led to the attack on Lacy, but the WNBA star managed to provide a statement to her fans.
"I want to thank my family, friends, fans and Shock family for their concern during this difficult time. I have never felt more love from my fans in supporting me," Lacy said via a Shock representative.
Holdsclaw has had a series of struggles throughout her life. In her book, "Breaking Through: Beating the Odds Shot After Shot," Holdsclaw described her battle with depression. In 2006, she revealed, she attempted suicide by overdosing on anti-depressants.
She has become an advocate and spoken to her alma mater about her struggle with depression, but it appears as though things have spiraled for the former star. She once played on the Olympic team that brought home the 2000 gold medal.
Holdsclaw has not issued a statement regarding the situation, and it's unknown whether or not she will actually face jail time for her actions.
