Charlie Sheen HIV Update: Actor Back on Meds After Trying Mexico 'Alternative'
Life is what Charlie Sheen risked when he temporarily stopped taking his HIV medications and opted for an "alternative" solution to his health problem from a Mexican doctor. However, it appears the Mexico trip didn't do much as it was revealed recently that the actor is now back on meds.
Mark Burg, Sheen's manager, told People that the actor is now "back on his meds." He added that Sheen did try the offer from a Mexican doctor named Dr. Sam Chachoua, but the alternative obviously failed. "He tried a cure from a doctor in Mexico but the minute the numbers went up, he started taking his medicine," Burg said.
Before Burg announced that Sheen is back on his medication that actually resulted to non-detectable levels of the virus in his blood, Sheen told "The Dr. Oz Show" that he has been off medication for about a week because he wanted to try the cure that Chachoua was developing.
Oz said Chachoua isn't licensed to practice medicine in the United States, but the unlicensed doctor was very confident in his work that he took some of Sheen's blood and injected it to his own blood.
Chachoua reportedly told Oz over the phone that he "drew some blood" and "I injected myself with it." He went on to claim that Sheen has been cured. Burg and Sheen both know that this is impossible since the figures of the virus on Sheen's blood have increased.
CBS News reminds the masses that while combination drug therapy in HIV treatment has the power to give a normal life to patients, one has to keep taking medication regularly, and in Sheen's case, the reminder has proven to be true.
On the other hand, no one can blame Sheen for taking a risky step since he stated previously that he will do everything in his power to find the cure not just for himself but for other patients suffering the same fate as his.
